Wood
Cast iron wood stoves are a classic symbol of New England, melting the chill off a snowy winter day. Yet, old stoves (built before 1992) actually waste firewood, pollute the air in your neighborhood, and create dust inside your home.
That is because in 1992, EPA standards went into effect that dramatically cut emissions (inside and outside) by more than 70%. In the generation that has followed, the manufacturers that were committed to the industry have made major advances in designing clean-burning, efficient heaters, and revolutionizing an industry that had been without significant innovation for nearly 200 years. With few exceptions, most wood stoves now require only 6” diameter flues - because they burn with less air, allowing a load of wood to last longer, and deliver more of the heat into the house and not up through the flue.
There’s a lot to consider when you choose to install a wood stove in your home. Is your challenge to heat a very large space, or is this for small zone heating? Is space at a premium, requiring a small footprint? Which location in your home will result in the best performance? Which stoves will really take the least amount of space – especially after observing clearances (minimum distances required to combustible materials) as tested by each manufacturer for each stove model?
Enchanted Fireside offers wood stoves in classic cast iron, heat-absorbing soapstone, and maintenance-free steel, along with the expertise to help you make the best choices, ensure your installation will perform as expected, conform to all applicable building codes (yes, a building permit is required), and observe the manufacturer specifications. With our healthy respect for fire, we can help to make sure your stove and installation choices are safe and your enjoyment of your wood stove makes you warm & happy.
